Resident Evil Survivor A new Resident Evil game has just hit the shelves. Haven't heard of it? There's a pretty good reason for that.

It's Raccoon City all over again, with a tenth the mobility of the previous Resident Evil titles.

Capcom, as a company, has a history of creating genres, then redefining them. Benchmark titles such as Ghosts & Goblins, Street Fighter II, Mega Man and, more recently, Power Stone serve as fine examples of innovation, gameplay and style. The problem, though, is that with each successful franchise, there is an almost inevitable thinning of the bloodline (the Street Fighterfranchise, etc). Sadly, the latest installment in the Resident Evil mythos falls into that trap, and it's a shame to see how the mighty have fallen. For those who don't know the words survival horror, or those who can't stand the prescripted, high tension, B-Movie thrills that the series had to offer, skip the rest of this review. For those readers who slaver like zombies at the thought of titanium trinkets and green herb, read on.

The Bottom Line: Gun Survivor is of little interest to any gamer -- hardcore, half-dead or otherwise.

This sort of thing happens often. It's not really scary, just annoying.
RayMan 2 The Great Escape The original PlayStation's days may be numbered, but Rayman 2 shows that there are still great games to be played

The whimsical tale of pirates and teensies is a lot of fun.

It's rare when a title that appears on multiple platforms consistently ranks as one of the best titles for that platform for the year. UbiSoft deserves credit for making Rayman 2 an outstanding piece of work for the N64, PC, Dreamcast and now the PlayStation. Naturally the PSX version can't compare to the others graphically, but the audio has been polished, the controls are just as smooth, and there's even a bonus level exclusive to the PlayStation. While some of the maps are shorter than in other versions of the game, just about everything else is intact across the 50 beautiful levels in 20 exotic worlds. This game is so good, it'll be one of the few PSX titles that will make the transition to your PS2.

The Bottom Line: A fun and beautiful platform game that shows there are still some stars twinkling in the PlayStation's twilight.

- Jim Preston

The whimsical tale of pirates and teensies is a lot of fun.
The Legend of Dragoon Sony's new role playing game is, quite simply, one of the best console RPGs ever.

The special attacks are a frenzy of color and light.

Ever since Dragon Warrior on the Nintendo Entertainment System, console role-playing games have followed a pretty basic formula -- 2D graphics, turn-based combat, random encounters, NPCs in town with little to say and epic storylines. Legend of Dragoon takes each of these components and adds a slight twist, making it an RPG that contains the best of all RPGs that have come before and adding some innovations that make it a step above the rest. This one has it all -- an innovative combat interface, a sweeping story and some of the most gorgeous graphics seen in a PSX RPG. Quite simply, it's a must-buy for any console RPG fanatic.

The dragoon spells look spectacular...these are un heard of graphics for the ps!
